5 Proven SEO Tips for your website

Incidentally, there is an extensive basic article on search engine optimization.

SEO Tricks

SEO Tip # 1: Use HTML Entities

Optimizing snippets is all about differentiating yourself from the competition on the search results page.

One way is called HTML Entities . These are special characters that do not represent letters, numbers or punctuation, but are still printed by Google in the snippets. These are simply built into the description.

SEO Tip # 2: Provide PDF / image files files with rel = canonical

Many know the problem: with much effort, a free white paper, an infographic or an eBook was created, which has created many links. Now the created PDF resp. Picture , for which another landing page was intended. For example, if you remove the PDF from the Google index via Search Console , the links to the PDF would be worthless .

The solution: in the. Htaccess file of the site will be

<files „dateiname.pdf“> Header add Link „<> rel=\“canonical\““</files>

inserted. This adds a canonical link to the http header, which Google says: the per rel = canonical linked page is the original (canonical) page and only this one is supposed to rank. The link power goes from the PDF / image to the right landing page.

Important: The page, which should rank, must link to the PDF / image and best still excerpts from the text of the PDF or the image included. Otherwise, Google may quickly put you in the Black Hat drawer .

SEO Tip # 3: Let pages index immediately

Often you want to get a page into the index as fast as possible . For example, if you have published an article on a highly topical topic. To ensure this, there is a well-hidden feature in Google Search Console.

Under the menu item Crawl-> Fetch as Google, a page can be displayed as Googlebot sees it .

This is the fastest way to index a page. It should be noted, however, that the function can only be used 10 times a month .

SEO Tip # 4: Long meta-description

Google usually displays only 140 to 165 characters from the meta-description. However, it often happens that a page targets not just a keyword, but synonyms or other spellings of the word.

Here it would be useful if a more relevant description could be given for these variations . The page ranks for the keyword “Bid Management Definition” as well as for “Bid Management Explanation”. Our goal is to  cover both keywords with a description . But 140 to 165 characters are not enough.

There is also a solution for this:

simply create a description that is twice as long . The first 140 characters are targeted to the keyword “Bid Management Explanation”, the next 140 characters are targeted to the keyword “Bid Management Definition”. It is important that after the first Description there is a point  to separate the two Descriptions from each other. It is also important that both descriptions are about 140 characters long.

Attention : Both descriptions are written in the same day.

So now we have two descriptions for one page and can increase the CTR again.

SEO Tip # 5: Page Performance / Page Load Problems

The page load speed or performance of your website is becoming more important to Google. In July 2018, Google, which many SEOs have always suspected, also communicated officially in its Page Speed Update.

Page performance or page load speed is a ranking signal. What the difference between page load speed and performance is, we described in this article. But for a first test, it’s very helpful if you check your page with Google’s PageSpeed Insight Tool.

In a second step, you might be able to optimize your images surgically. You will find the reference to large images under the tab “recommendations”. If you do not have your own image optimization tool, you can also use it to tweak images used.
